A New Addition... to our garage.

Being that on a daily basis at work I inquire as to whether or not my patients have rails in their homes I really wanted to have some railings to enter our home. At one point I had mention this to Joshua's dad. One day I came home from work and there was some mystery lumbar on our front porch. My first thought was that one of the construction workers made a delivery to the wrong house. Later, we found out it was the lumbar for my rails dropped off by Jim!

Last Saturday, while I was at work, Joshua and Jim spent the afternoon putting the rails up. They turned out wonderful and was a fantastic surprise to have them done so early. We hope to either paint or stain the rails and steps in the future. Thanks Jim! Check out the final results below (no pictures of the process unfortunately).

Landscaping Project #1...

Josh and I have wanted to replace the mulch in our landscaping since the day it was laid down. It was not the highest quality, was not the best looking stuff, and got all over the sidewalk, porch, lawn, and our house! About a month and a half ago we went to a local landscaping supply store and found some rocks that we really like but decided to wait until closer to summer.

On Friday and Saturday our neighbor replaced his mulch and every time we drove by his house we got more excited about doing our own landscaping. So after getting some advice from our families on Easter we decided we were going to get moving on it sooner rather than later. Little did Josh know I was thinking pretty soon. We both had the Monday after Easter off and no plans. I started calling some places suggested by our families a little before 9:00 am and found out that if we ordered soon they could deliver same day! I got Josh up and we decided to do it. By 9:15 am our rocks were ordered. We were at my parents house in Lakeville by 10:15 am to borrow a wheelbarrow and shovels and by the time we got home our rocks were sitting in the driveway. We started a little before 11:00 am and worked straight through (minus a short lunch break) and were done by 4:00 pm. We are both completely sore and I really wished today that I had a desk job but it was worth it. Here are some pictures of our handy work.

We filled numerous wheelbarrows full of this mulch that Josh hauled away

This is the rock pile, I would say this is a little under half of what we started with

The Beginning...

I have been wanting to start a blog for some time now but have not gotten around to it. Seeing that I had a couple days off work and not much to do I decided to go for it. Josh and I have started to really sway away from facebook lately. However, we still wanted to stay in touch with our friends and family and give occasional updates on our lives and a blog seemed to be a good way to accomplish this. I cannot promise it will be updated regularly, or that the content will be entertaining in the least bit, but I will try my best.

For my first official post I will explain the name of our blog, "The Janitorial". Since getting married Josh and I have tried to make it through the several TV series that we own. So far we have managed to watch Gilmore Girls and Friends in their entirety. Just recently, we finished Josh's favorite TV series, Scrubs. The name of our blog comes from Scrubs episode. I have included a short clip from the show to explain more but we would really suggest watching the whole episode (season 7, episode 8, "My Manhood).
